Year for their commitment to hiring our young people.

A
special acknowledgement was made to recognize Kay Leane
from TTC Marketing for her commitment to helping make
JFY a stronger organization.
A
few excerpts from JFY graduates who spoke at the Luncheon:
"When
my son was only 6 months old DCFS took temporary custody of
my son and at that time my father also signed me over to be
under DCFS custody. So once again I had to make major adjustments
such as going through various shelters and various group home
living arrangements. In January of 2008 I began attending
GED classes under the instruction of Chris Lynch who made
the classroom setting worth coming to school every day and
taught me so many valuable things to assist me in passing
the GED test. Not only did I have the guidance of a wonderful
teacher but I also felt the warmth of the other staff and
also endured the guidance of a wonderful mentor Nina Hardy.
I was able to come to her about anything and got help with
everything I needed. I think this is what I needed all along
people who actually cared no matter what the circumstance.
Statistics say that an individual like me would never make
it but I am standing here today as living proof that any and
everyone can rise above the odds. I dont think I would
have ever made it without the great assistance of Jobs For
Youth."
Ayele
Amos-Mandela, 2008 JFY Graduate & currently
a student at Robert Morris College
"I
was forced to go into foster care when I was 13 years old.
I was mistreated by my foster mother, who played the mother
role only for the monthly checks. Life felt like a mistake
for me. At the age of 19, I got involved with Jobs For Youth
to show my daughter how to be independent and be her role
model. The JFY staff members are positive role models for
the students and won't allow them to give up until they succeed.
They strive for the best. I never felt like I was a part of
a team until I joined Jobs For Youth. Every staff member makes
you feel welcome and makes you feel good about yourself. Thank
you Jobs For Youth."
Dorothy Miller, 2007 JFY Graduate & currently
working at Chicago Policemen's Annuity & Benefit Fund
"The
skills that I learned from Jobs For Youth are invaluable.
The most important things, I learned from Jobs for Youth was
my resume building and interviewing skills. No where have
I had anyone help me practice my interview skills and was
able to provide direct feedback about the positives and negatives.
It is greatly beneficial to get resume and interviewing tips
from actual representatives from a company possibly looking
to hire."

Cowherd, 2007 JFY Graduate & working at C.H.

Breakfast Leadership Forum
|
|
The
Breakfast Leadership Series started in October
2005 and every month since, Jobs For Youth and the
410 Club and Conference Center has hosted a variety
of spectacular speakers. Attended by over 100 of Chicago's
business professionals every month, the Breakfast
was generously underwritten and sponsored by the 410
Club and Conference Center. The 410 Club's generousity
allowed Jobs For Youth to reach a wider audience and
provided the business community with an excellent
networking opportunity.
As
the 410 Club and Conference Center close its doors,
the JFY Board of Directors, staff and clients would
like to say thank you for your kindness and generousity.
